Angas Zinc Mine

The Angas Zinc Mine is located on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia, 2km from the town of Strathalbyn, 60km from the state’s capital city Adelaide, and 70km from the sea port of Port Adelaide.

The mine was placed in care and maintenance in late 2013 as a result of then current economic reserves being depleted.  In order to preserve capital infrastructure the majority of underground fixed plant was removed and stored on surface.  Approximately 93% of the mined voids have been filled as part of the stoping sequence, but the decline and level drives remain open as access to remaining resources in the event of future reopening of the mine. After treating all available ore, the processing plant has been decommissioned and is being maintained in a ready condition for restarting in the short term.

The mine is maintained in accordance with a plan approved by the Department of Energy and Mines including the continuation of extensive ongoing environmental monitoring.

The Angas Zinc Mine has an existing Indicated and Inferred Resource of 1,200,000 at 5.8% Zinc and Lead which is located adjacent to existing mine workings.  There is potential for additional near mine resources through exploration on the Mining Lease.

As part of the Mining Lease requirements, Terramin has developed a Programme for Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation which has been approved by the Department of Energy and Mines which incorporates the Mine Closure Plan.

Terramin has applied for a Miscellaneous Purposes Licence for the purpose of utilising the Angas processing and tailings facilities for the treatment of high-grade gold ore from the Bird-in-Hand Gold Project.
